On Tuesday, a witness reported seeing a man fall into a hot spring called Norris Geyser Basin at Yellowstone National Park. She described him as a man in his early 20s. Since a body has not been discovered, searchers decided to respond to the case as a probable fatality, all according to CNN and NBC.
ABC shares, “The Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest and most dynamic thermal area in Yellowstone, which features springs that can reach temperatures close to 200 degrees Fahrenheit.” As the search continues, authorities need to be careful around the hot spring and proceed with caution.
Reason:
I chose this story because it was covered by various, credible news sources. As well as that, Yellowstone National Park is a popular vacation spot. Because of it, this news might have an indirect effect on current and future visitors. The accident happened this week, which makes the news recent.

ReplyDeleteGreat briefs this week! I can't believe that someone fell into a hot geyser. I've been to Yellowstone quite a few times. They make it pretty clear there that you need to stay away from them. What was that man doing so close to the geyser to begin with? I have so many questions...
Thank you, Sam!
DeleteI get what you mean. I've never been there (though I'd love to), but I don't quite understand the situation myself... It'd definitely be interesting to know a reason why or how this happened.

ReplyDeleteGreat novelty story choice for the week, it breaks up the more common stories we are used to seeing. Also, as Samantha noted, it makes you wonder and ask yourself many other questions about the incident. Nice work!
Alexis,
ReplyDeleteThis was a really good choice for a story. I agree with what Alexander said, there is a real novelty aspect to it, that certainly makes it newsworthy. I didn't necessarily know it was something could happen. I mean I knew it is theoretically possible for someone to fall into a geyser, but I never thought it would be something that would happen.
Good work
Lexi,
ReplyDeleteI really liked this story. I wonder why the man was close enough to the geyser to accidentally fall in. This is a very newsworthy story, great job!
